Guardamar is just 15 minutes by car, and is a popular place to go on holiday. Also known as Guardamar del Segura is a typical Spanish town which not only has some of the best beaches in Spain, it also has an excellent street market every Wednesday morning, theres also quite a large market, which is on the outskirts on the way from Guardamar to Quesada, just off what the locals call the Lemon Tree Road, this market on Sunday mornings is in El Campo de Guardamar, (but it can be very busy!) Any month of the year, theres always many things to do in Guardamar, brilliant shops, bars and restaurants
You may want to: Visit the Reina Sofia park which has a beautifully designed lake, trails and waterfalls - the children will love to watch the peacocks, squirrels, turtles, ducks, birds, etc, that all roam freely about in the lakes and grassed areas, plus a dedicated play area for children which has loads of swings, slides, see-saws etc. etc. Or visit the large picnic areas by the northern part of the beach. Maybe visit the magnificent castle in town centre. Go to the pine forests. See a typical Spanish fiesta. Get some expert tennis coaching from the resident tennis coach in the huge sports centre.
Sunbathe on some of the best beaches in Spain, Or just sample some of the brilliant Spanish bars and restaurants Also there are quite a few golf courses on the Costa Blanca, some of which are just a few minutes drive away.
Guardamar is surrounded by two large and beautiful natural salt water lakes which form the "Salinas de Guardamar" and are an official Spanish Nature Reserve, these lakes attract a wide variety of bird life. The concentration of salt and warm temperatures, combine to endow Guardamar and nearby areas with a particularly healthy micro-climate, recommended by doctors for its beneficial properties. Bathing in the salt lagoons is also becoming popular for many medicinal reasons. The climate in Guardamar makes it an ideal location for year round holiday activities, especially if you want to fulfil that yearning for some sunshine during those dreary winter months in the UK.
On average, Guardamar enjoys 320 days of sunshine per year and an average daily temperature of 17°C. Temperatures in July and August are typically 30°C. Many people prefer the months when the weather can be near perfect in April, May, June, September, October and November. The town is orientated towards families and couples, youll find no night-time trouble with lager louts etc.
Guardamar,is a developing tourist centre and one of the most important on the Mediterranean coast. However, youll find it is not nearly as commercialised as the Costa Blanca resorts to the north of Alicante, it still retains that special "Spanish" feel and is in a relaxed environment.
Marina Las Dunes, known officially as Marina de Las Dunas. Walk around the marina and along the outer sea wall. As well as admiring the boats in the marina, you can watch the local fishermen unloading their catch alongside the fish market all within 15 minutes. No crowds, no noise, just perfect peace and quiet.
